Japan is a small island country in East Asia, located in the Pacific Ocean. It has over 90,000 species of wildlife as of 2019. Besides other favorite dishes, one of the traditional staples for Japanese people is seafood. Dishes like sushi are considered one of their national dishes.

But sushi isn’t the only seafood dish in Japan. Here are some of the favorite seafood items in Japan:
•Unagi (Grilled Eel): Served in a rice bowl and is fairly expensive.
•Uni (Edible Gonads of Sea Urchin): A delicacy usually enjoyed as raw sashimi or as a sushi topping.
•Maguro (Bluefin Tuna): Another delicacy and one of the most popular sushi toppings and sashimi. You can find it in both sushi restaurants and fish markets.
•Raw Tako (Octopus): Steamed octopus is used in sushi toppings, sashimi, and other seafood dishes. Grilled octopus is also popular.
•Fugu (Pufferfish): Notoriously poisonous! For those who want to try it, winter is the fugu season. Make sure the restaurant is certified because the poison can shut down a person’s nervous system.
•Ikura (Salmon Roe): Bright orange and a favorite sushi topping and rice bowl ingredient. Referred to as red caviar, it's a staple for a Japanese seafood bowl.
•Ebi (Shrimp): You can find it in various forms in Japan, from raw on sushi, grilled on teppan, to crispy and juicy as tempura.
