Saudi Arabia and Circular Crops

Saudi Arabia in World Map

In Saudi Arabia, they use a cool method called center pivot irrigation to grow circular crops. You can find many of these irrigation projects all around the world. They pump nonrenewable fossil water from deep underground, sometimes as deep as 1 km (3,000 ft), and use it to water their fields. These circular fields can be a few hundred meters to as much as 3 km (1.9 miles) wide and grow crops like alfalfa and wheat. A few decades ago, most of this area was just desert with very little rain and water, making it tough for towns to survive.
